About Triangle
Our Team • Alice Shorett

Founder Alice Shorett has provided mediation and facilitation services throughout the U.S. and Canada for more than 30 years.  Alice founded Triangle Associates in 1979 and is a pioneer in the field of environmental and public policy mediation. Her early work included the successful negotiation of the Snohomish River Basin Agreement – the first case in which environmental mediation principles were applied in the United States.

Alice produces results – successful agreements in multi-party public policy and natural resource cases with scientific complexity.  Her style is substantive, efficient, and directed to outcomes.  She has logged more than 20,000 hours resolving disputes in hundreds of cases involving complex public policy and natural resource issues.  She has served as a mediator, facilitator, and process consultant in alternative dispute resolution and collaborative problem solving.

Alice coauthored Negotiating Settlements, a Guide to Environmental Mediation (American Arbitration Association).  She is featured in Public Dispute Mediators: Profiles of 15 Distinguished Careers (Harvard Law School, Program on Negotiation).  Alice is on the national conflict resolution rosters for the US EPA and US Institute for Environmental Conflict Resolution, and is on state mediation rosters in Washington and Oregon.  She also belongs to the Native Dispute Resolution Network administered by the US Institute for Environmental Conflict Resolution and is a member of the Association for Conflict Resolution and Dispute Resolution section of the American Bar Association.

Alice is an avid practitioner of yoga.  She recently published an updated history of Seattle’s Pike Place Market, Soul of the City (University of Washington Press, 2007).
