Senior Associate Michael Kern designs and facilitates the work of policy committees, science panels, technical teams and stakeholder coalitions as they organize, review and prioritize information, and reach consensus. Michael is an adept listener, writer and communicator whose focus is fostering productive conversation and consistent progress among diverse interests. As a neutral third-party, Michael helps communicate findings and recommendations to decision-makers and the public.
Michael recently joined Triangle, bringing over 17 years of experience in facilitation, mediation, project management, and strategic planning. He has worked with federal, state, local and tribal governments; non-profit organizations; private entities; citizen groups and others. Michael managed and facilitated the Puget Sound and Coastal Washington Hatchery Reform Project, facilitated the Hanford Openness Workshops and Tribal Risk Roundtable, and directed an initiative to create a collaborative vision for conservation, recreation and economic development in Washington's North Cascades region. Michael has published on open decision-making at the Hanford Nuclear Site and reforming salmon hatcheries in western Washington.
When not at Triangle, Michael enjoys hiking, fishing, reading, racquetball, baseball and spending time with his wife, Ellen, and two kids, Aaron and Sylvia. He is also active in his community, including the PTA, Little League and YMCA Adventure Guides.
