Water Education for the City of Everett

Situation
In an effort to maintain their current drinking water reservoir throughout population increase and to educate the public on the impacts of their water use behaviors, the City of Everett hired Triangle Associates to develop education programs and support materials that will reach students and families in their service area.
Process
Triangle’s work for the City of Everett began with the development of a middle school water conservation pilot program in July 2004. Due to the program’s overwhelming success, the City expanded Triangle’s role to include management and redesign of all their water education programs.
Results
Triangle developed key messages, scripts, props and support materials for five high-energy water workshops targeting 2nd-12th grade students. By designing age-appropriate and curricula-based activities, Triangle meets student needs for fun and engaging lessons, teacher needs to satisfy state learning requirements, and the City’s needs to meet education goals for conservation and watershed protection. The programs and presenters consistently receive excellent reviews.
“The program schedule was fully booked by December and was extended by popular demand through the spring. This overwhelming response to our program is an indication of the quality and creativity Triangle puts into their programs.”
–Tom Thetford, City of Everett Utilities Director
