Benardo Relampagos

Project Associate

Benardo Relampagos is based in Portland, Oregon, and has over six years of experience working in collaboration with culturally diverse community groups. As a Filipino adoptee, he is deeply committed to equity and justice for Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Color (BIPOC) and other underrepresented communities. He channels his expertise towards helping improve access by these communities to public decision-making spaces through collaborative dialogue, community outreach, and communicating technical information clearly to lay audiences. He was born in Manila, Philippines, but raised in Portland, Oregon.

Prior to joining the team at Triangle, Benardo spent time working with the Portland State University’s Linguistic Diversity Awareness Project (LiDA) that engaged with campus communities disproportionally impacted by inequity and language discrimination. In this role, he oversaw and coordinated administrative logistics for faculty and student research meetings, operationalized research methodologies, and conducted DEI oriented research to provide equitable outcomes for campus communities. He co-authored two papers on equitable solutions for improving linguistic diversity that were presented at the 2023 Linguistic Society of America Meeting and the 2021 American Association for Applied Linguistics conference.

Benardo earned his B.A. and M.A. in Applied Linguistics from Portland State University.
